Some of our best tattoos

Tattoos are like art, some people like different types of art but this doesn’t make the rest of it not worthy. The same goes for tattoos.

When you look closer into tattoos you can identify all those elements that create a good tattoo overall.

Good and solid lines.

All the lines in a tattoo should have the same consistency and look crisp throughout. Also,  a good line should have the same thickness from one end to the other. Different thickness lines are most likely to be used in the same tattoo because of the style and the effect the artist wishes to achieve. Here we have to mention that not all tattoos have lines, for example in realism tattoos — solid lines can take away the realistic effect when they are not used properly.

Soft and smooth shading.

Shading is one of the most important elements of a good tattoo. With shading we can add depth in realistic tattoos, and for other tattoo styles it’s used to create a base to add colour later. When you look closer into quality tattoos you should be able to identify shading that is transitioning from dark to light tones, evenly and smoothly throughout. Also, you should be able to notice areas that are shaded with the same tone of ink but with no inconsistencies or patches.

Smooth colour saturation and solid colour application.

Colour tattoos can be such a bold statement for many people. It’s a niche style and usually artists who specialise in this style have years of experience. In most great colour tattoos there is a lot of saturation but its is very important to be able to blend those colours smoothly. This requires a lot of experience by the artist to make sure the colours will heal with consistent transitions and as close to the original colour as possible. Another important element to remember is that all colours are solid pigment— wrong application can lead to colours not healing properly resulting in patchy areas of pigment under the skin and possible scarring.
